Drum Journey

Learning drums as a working adult — week-by-week reflections on practice, the metronome problem, and where AI tools genuinely help (and where they don't).

Drum Journey

I'm learning drums. Properly, not just messing around.

A few things I want to track honestly here:

  • The boring fundamentals — rudiments, time, the metronome. The stuff every method book says matters and that I have to slow down and actually do.
  • The plateau weeks. I expect them. I want to write through them rather than skip them.
  • AI as a practice tool — what's genuinely useful (transcription, drill generation, ear-training) and what's still gimmicky.
  • The full-body part of it. Drumming is physical in a way that pure desk work isn't, and I'm curious what shows up.

This is a public-by-default learning log. Posts will be short and frequent rather than polished and rare.
